Ok, I am a fan of Gibson's writing/stories.
I've gotten a bit disappointed with his last few books though. Mainly "All Tomorrow's Parties" and "Pattern Recognition"...I haven't yet read "Spook Country" but my brother claims it's a bit similar to "PR" so I won't be reading the hardback version. I'd rather wait and pick it up in the library!! HAHA.

Idea #1
SWAT-ish team that tracks down unauthorized users (of electronic equipment) and takes them out with extreme prejudice.
The team appears and takes action without warning, suddenly, shockingly; in public or private situations. Their targets are non-essential to them; only that they have hommed in on the unauthorized user's equipment and done their job.
When a piece of soft- or hardware that is not registered properly, whether paid for or not, it creates a silent, but highly trackable signal which the SWAT team can locate and pinpoint with tracker units. The signal is not sent over any electronic sphere or net, but through sound waves undetectable to all but the tracker unit hardware that only the SWAT team carries.
No one knows where or who creates the tracker units nor how the electronic equipment eminates the signal to be tracked.
The key is this: anytime an unauthorized soft- or hardware is activated, it creates fluctuations in the chip/s being used onboard that unit. These fluctuations then create a highly-undetecable field of energy that is able to fling itself (in waves) outwards into the atmosphere and beyond. These energy waves can travel undocumented lengths. The farthest logged blip has been found at the edge of the Sol System.
There is, at present, no KNOWN hack to disable these fluctuations on any known electronic unit. Underground hackerists claim to be able to early-detect the flux and stop it before it starts to eminate from the unit in question. This is a rumour at present.

The OMI Brotherhood
When I was living in Japan I'd constantly carry a tube of the Omi Brotherhood's Mentholatum chapstick. This stuff was the best stuff in the word; not too waxy, not shiny, no fragrance, but just perfect.
I've since run out, now that I live in the States, and I'm searching for some. My wife went to Uwajimaya and hopefully they sell it there.
I NEED SOME!
